March in Kabwe

We have Simone from Holland visiting and she bumped into Dudley the snake and croc charmer, on the bus. He allowed sneak previews of his pet croc...
We discovered an amazing waterfall on Raj's farm- soon to be our farm when we move into a house there in April. Beers, mud that maybe is good for you, and plenty of sunshine made it a magical place.

Simone and Brad in the falls- note umbrella for shade- such a drag to have too much sun

Later on that day the guard dogs at our future farm house managed to escape- perhaps due to a gate we left open- and Lawrence heroically captured them again.
Only to realize that he had in fact mixed dogs and the farmer had an entirely new dog who sat innocently impersonating the old one for a whole day before someone noticed!

Moll and Loz on the farm- we have been feeding Lawrence local home brew so he has grown twice the size.
Meanwhile, Molly has shrunk in all areas except her head, due to her predeliction for
strange herbal teas.

Braai time is here again as we have too many people staying to cook on our 2 plate. Lawrence and Brad turned into Kerosene junkies, but the towering flames proved a blessing once the power cut.
Tom provided Dire straits on the guitar, and if you care to examine this photo closely you can see Moll's pink pants.

Broom Broom and Yum Yum

We are very proud owners of a golf cart, ahem, car! Brad almost fits in the back if he lies down a bit and I will leave it to your imagination as to what Lawrence is actually wishing for in the photo below

Here are some lovely people where Molly and Brad work

And Lawrence at work- doesn't he look happy! (or caffeinated..?)

Dinner time- such team work!

Serious competition in drinking scrabble...

We have nice white birds us now and again

and regard! le harvest of real tomatoes! Lawrence likes to have them on our bedroom windowsill...

Insanity

This was the beginning of a party we had at our house with lots of folks from Molly's work.
This is Abdul making the 'Red Fire' which is no mean feat with wet charcoal. We have since dried it out on the balcony but now we have run out of kerosene. But anyway enough about the science or should I say fine art of lighting a fire..

This picture is later at the party and these guys are Jonas, Abdul, Dibali, Thabo and Roy. Thabo is pointing at a bottle of Autumn Harvest which is actually Zambian for cheap wine. Autumn Harvest is sometimes drunk on its own or on special occasions mixed with beer - which actually makes it taste better.

Mwamba (above) is one of our neighbours. I am teaching him how to swing a golf club and play guitAR. I asked him if he had ever heard of the Beatles and he said yes... but I suspect he lied to me because so far he hasn't recognised any of the songs I've played him from the Beatles complete song book!

This is the biggest tragedy - someone cut down our tree while we were out. I told the lady to 'cut the tree' as in trim the leaves not cut the whole thing down! I think we are going to have to move out now..
These guys are some of my fellow designers (from foreground to background) Angel, Gabriel and Michael. They are actually not gangsters ...
This is castle Muvi. Well Muvi TV headquarters where I work. The graphics room is behind that little piece of wood above the two aircon

This is a picture of a shirt I got made. Look at the way the pattern exactly matches up in the middle. I have also taken to wearing a necklace which is in the shape of a head and is made of wood.. give it a few months and I will have pierced my nose with an elephant tusk.

This is a parade of shops - they are shut because it is Sunday - I am attempting to cycle as fast of possible down the pavement with my legs spread in the fashion of an eagle (for more speed)

Some readers of this blog have asked to see more pictures of Kabwe and less pictures of drunken idiots. Well, this is a small part of Kabwe - outside this shoe shop there are about 6 pillars adorned with paintings of shoes - not bad eh?.
We met up with the boys at a bar called 'Go Disney' which is basically a carpark with beer in it. I got bitten by a snake in the head and Abdul (top left) insisted that brad suck out the poison before I died. I did live to tell the tale.

After Brad sucked the snake poison from my head he contracted 'Rage' and briefly became a zombie. I had to lock him in the chicken coop for my own safety... he was not best pleased. Note: there are no chickens - he ate them.
Exit Molly stage left. Yes sadly the heroine of this blog had to go away for an act or two (jet setting around Europe) and so rather than let the audience down we decided that the play must go on and bravely continued partying in Kabwe without her.

By the way, Claire came to stay with us from Tanzania for a few weeks and did some work at Moll's company. She was like Brad but a girl version - good fun basically... This picture was the beginning of the night at our place.

Christmas in the Wilderness

We travelled 7 hours on a dodgy potholed road to find a beautiful wilderness called Mutinondo- think Wales with some sunshine, swimmable waterfalls and endless countryside!
Despite Molly's slightly irrational fears of lions in the bush, we escaped unscathed- but we were chased by 2 enormous sci fi red spiders!

Wild swimming was a highlight- Lawrence took it upon himself to see if he could conquer all the waterfalls- resulting in a nosedive through the rapids- cut feet, bashed up knees but a kind of heroic afterglow...

December is the middle of rainy season here so we had plenty of moody landscapes- and one terrfying storm when we got a bit lost off the track...Molly wouldn't let us use the umbrellas as lightning lit up the sky- she had a raincoat and Lawrence did not...Juat as Lawrence realized the map was sodden and we should probably go back half way across the bush, we saw the shining lights of our lodge- we have never been so grateful to arrive home!

Gross insects abound in rainy season- millipedes with illuminous green feet and plenty of maggotty things....

The chalet and camp were simply divine and we virtually had the place to ourselves- morning coffee brought to your bedside before breakfast was amazing!

The sunsets were spectacular from the rock by the bar..

Day two found us horseriding- Lawrence's horse had to be changed after it refused to budge and Molly didn't exactly LOVE it at first but Zambuca, her horse, was usually used for frightened 5 yr olds so she did ok in the end

Christmas day- on top of the world!

On the way home we stopped off at the Cooing Dove Waterfall- a hidden gem with an amazing view

We miss our fire the most in our open fronted Chalet! (Yes Molly did spend the first night in the raven proof cupboard as she got a bit scared- but lawrence relsihed the bat/owl/bird show that went on inside our very room!)

Happy Christmas!
